Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Blackley McLane, 94, of Vero Beach passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Dorothy was born in Canada on September 25, 1923 and was the only child of the late Hilda Mary Buckingham Blackley (concert pianist) and Edward Joseph Blackley (school teacher and writer). In her younger years Dorothy was an accomplished swimmer and was scouted for the Olympics. She graduated from high school and in the early 40's worked for the War Department as an alpha card punch operator.

She married Harold 'Bucky' McLane and they had four daughters. The family moved to Vero Beach from Rexford, New York in 1960 to manage Sea Cove Cottages. They divorced and she remained in Vero Beach. After retiring from the State of Florida, Dorothy enjoyed cooking, music, gardening and most of all was a huge fan of the Dodgers and didn't miss going to spring training for years.

Thank you to the staff at Atlantic Healthcare, especially Marie, who cared for this sweet and stubborn woman for four years.

She is survived by her daughters Linda Holcomb of Benbrook TX; Joanne McLane of Vero Beach; Sheryl Cobb of Vero Beach and Pauline Barber of Starke FL.  Grandsons Scott Cobb (Stephanie) of Sebastian; Fred Cobb of Vero Beach; Dominic Barber of Starke, FL; granddaughter Carmen Jamison of Starke FL; 7 great-grandchildren, nieces Jackie Newman of Medford MA and Cynthia McLane of Hartford CT. She was preceded in death by son-in-law Jim Holcomb of Benbrook, TX.
