Obituary for Dorothy Helen Nadig (ne Keller) Died 2 April, 2012, Vero Beach, FL Born July 12, 1911 Chicago, Ill, Daughter of Elsie H. DeWolf and Walter T. Keller. She was the wife of Thomas E Nadig, deceased '06; the mother of Ralph J. DeJong, Jr., deceased '09. She is survived by her other son, Lawrence R DeJong, and wife Pamela, of Ashland MA; two grandaughters: Carol A Williams, & husband Brooks, of Jacksonville, FL and Jennifer DeJong of Harpers Ferry, WV; and four great-grandaughters: Maya, Chloe, & Amelia Williams, and Kiersten DeJong. Dorothy was also the step mother to Tom s son Carroll Nadig, and wife Sandra, of Saline, Michigan. From a very early age Dorothy was an avid reader and until her death was surrounded by books, mostly novels. She loved working with her hands and for many years made wonderful knitted sweaters, afgans and shawls, and countless needlepoint and cross stitch creations that she gave to her family and friends. Early in her life she played piano and had a wonderful voice. She also did a number of paintings that have been passed on to family members. Dorothy was a trained secretary and worked for a number of years as secretary to the principal of an Elementary school in Oceanside, NY. Dorothy grew up in Chicago and married Ralph J DeJong, Sr, in 1933, from which 2 sons were born. In 1946, her husband Ralph died. As the war was ending, Dorothy rented rooms in her home to returning GIs studying at the DeForest School of Radio in Chicago. Tom Nadig became one of her boarders. After marrying Tom Nadig in 1948, they moved to Long Island, living in New Hyde Park in the early 50s, then Baldwin in the late 50s and 60s. After her two sons were grown, she and Tom moved to Flushing, NY. In the early 70s they started coming to Florida and eventually purchased a Condo in the Vista Harbor complex in Vero Beach. They loved it and eventually after Tom retired in the early 80s, they bought a unit in the new condo development of Grove Isle, in south Vero Beach.
They loved the town of Vero Beach and for 30 plus years were very active in their condo development and various clubs and groups in & around Vero Beach.
