Obit: Douglas John Gottung
Douglas John Gottung of Surf City, N.J. and PSL, FL, passed away on April 22, 2011, at age 67, after a long illness.
He was born on November 8, 1943, in Amsterdam, N.Y., the son of Edna Hinkle Gottung and Grant Gottung who predecease him. He is also predeceased by his sister Donna Lou Gottung Bower.
He was educated in local schools in Amsterdam, N.Y. and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School class of 1961. He attended Albany Business College, graduating with a degree in accounting. Douglas was employed at several prominent banks and companies in NY and NJ, among them Citibank in NYC and Merrill Lynch. He was a bank officer at United National Bank in Plainfield, N.J., and directed their tax/trust office for 15 years. He also serviced many private tax clients.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Joyce Gottung and her family. He is also survived by his older sister, Lois Gottung Peck of Wilbraham, Mass. , and by his daughter Lora Lee Gottung Belanger and her husband Robert, of Sprakers, N.Y. as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Douglas was an extremely generous, optimistic, and social man who took his time to stop and smell the flowers. He liked nothing better than spending happy times with family and friends, who will sorely miss him.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds in Vero Beach, FL.
