Edward "Ed" Daniel Cantwell was called home to heaven to be reunited with Cindy, his beloved wife of 48 years, early Tuesday morning, May 2nd, 2023 in his Vero Beach, FL residence. He was Born to Edward and Muriel (Startup) Cantwell in East Orange, NJ, October 19,1935. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Cantwell (Marilyn) of Woodstock, GA and his grandson, David Cantwell, Jr of Vero Beach. Ed has two surviving sisters, Kathleen Carmello (Jimmy) and Virginia Vieira (Greg). At 18 years old, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a military police officer, and photographer. At age 21 he married the love of his life, Cynthia (Landry) Cantwell, and started a beautiful family consisting of five children; Sharon Travis (Bret), Edward "Eddie" Cantwell Jr. (Debra), David Cantwell Sr. (Julie), Carole Labadie (Roger), and Donald "DJ" Cantwell (Jenni). They raised their children in Dover, New Hampshire and Eliot, Maine where Ed worked first for the Public Service Company of NH and later for a lighting and electrical company. After enduring many brutal winters in Maine, they moved to Vero Beach, FL where Ed worked as a Service Manager at Coggin Honda. Ed was a devoted husband, loving brother, dedicated father, beloved grandfather and cherished great (and great-great) grandfather. He was best known for his love of family, immense sense of humor, and loyal friendships. In addition to his two sisters, five children and their spouses, he also leaves behind a legacy of eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a litany of cherished friends.
A Mass will be held in his honor at St. Helen's Catholic Church Wednesday, January 24th, 2024. In addition, a celebration of life for family and friends will be held 4pm Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Riverhouse of Vero Beach. We ask that those wishing to send a gift please consider donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
