Eleanor B. Simon, 83, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

She was born October 1, 1929 in New York, NY and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1986 coming from New York.

Prior to her retirement in 2011, she worked as a realtor for Ed Schlitt Caldwell Banker in Vero Beach.

Mrs. Simon was a board member for the Substance Awareness Council and Alcohope, both in Vero Beach. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church as well as the Substance Addiction Ministry at St. Helen Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Juvenile Justice Committee. Mrs. Simon was a founding member of Hanley Hall, Character Counts and the Samaritan Center, where she organized the annual Soup Bowl Fundraiser.

She is survived by her daughter, Suellyn Simon of Vero Beach; son, Joel Simon of Minnesota; daughter, Vickie Shannon of Vero Beach; son, Chris Simon of Vero Beach; sister, Catherine Scherer of Long Island, NY; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Simon and her brother, Michael Bartel Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, FL.
