ELIZABETH HANSEN MASON of Vero Beach, AGE 100, passed away on April second at the VNA Hospice House.

She was born January 20, 1923 in Viking (now Indrio) Florida and was a lifelong resident of Vero Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband James R. Mason and son Christopher C. Mason and is survived by her son James R. Mason Jr.

She was the youngest of seven children of Jens and Anna Hansen, immigrants from Denmark who became U.S. citizens in the early 1900s and moved to Vero Beach from Illinois in 1917. Her father, a horticulturalist, was a contributor to the development of the McKee Botanical Gardens.

Elizabeth was Salutatorian of her 1940 Vero Beach High School graduating class and worked as a legal secretary for over 40 years at the law firm of Mitchell, Smith and Mitchell and its successors. She also did private secretarial work for various prominent local residents.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, and was active in Church work. Elizabeth loved family and home, gardening, reading and travel. Her favorite travel destination was Italy, with its 2000-plus years of accumulated culture.

Elizabeth is best remembered for her intelligence, breadth , good humor and as a good mother.

Arrangements are for a simple graveside service for immediate family on April 17, 2023.
