Emory R. "George" Hobbs, 97, died Feb. 11, 2012,
at V N A Hospice House in Vero Beach FL . of
complications following a stroke.

He was born in 1914 in Ellicott City, MD., and
spent his early years in Baltimore and on the family
farm in nearby Howard County. Following graduation
from Baltimore City College in 1932, he began what
would be a 47-year career in the insurance industry
with a twenty-year stint with United States Fidelity
and Guarantee Co. in Baltimore and later Chicago, IL.,
where he met and married his beloved wife Betty of
61 years in 1941. He worked for eight years with
American States Ins. Co. in Indianapolis, IN., and in
1963 became an assistant VP with State Farm
Casualty Ins. Co. in Bloomington, IL., from which he
retired in 1979. He has been a Vero Beach resident for
the past 33 years, residing at The Isles retirement
community for much of that time.

He was a member of St. Helens Catholic Church
in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his son Richard Hobbs of Vero
Beach and Annapolis, MD.; daughters Susan Leitner
of Vero Beach and Fairhope, AL. , and Elizabeth
Cruickshank of Flagstaff, AZ.; five grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.

Services: A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 17
at St. Helens Catholic Church in Vero Beach, followed
by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort
Pierce.
