Ernest Califano
Ernest Califano, 91 of Vero Beach, FL passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.
Mr. Califano was born September 30, 1920 in Tarrytown, NY and moved to Vero Beach 10 years ago, coming from Hutchinson Island.
He was a member of American Legion Post #39 and the Disabled Veterans Association. While in the Navy on the ship "Pollux". Mr. Califano survived a ship wreck off the coast of Newfoundland where 203 men were lost in a gale storm. One of the worst Naval disasters remembered. Two ships, the Truxtun and the Pollux went ashore on February 18, 1942.
Mr. Califano is survived by his sisters, Frances Caniano of Vero Beach, FL and Emilia Del Franco of Copper City, Fl, several nieces and nephews and his long time companion, Carmella (Millie) Aspromonte.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carmella and Ralph Califano and two brothers, Anthony and Ralph Califano and his wife, Louise Califano.
