Ernest "Ernie" Richard Mulhall. 71 of Vero Beach, FL and Manchester, NJ, passed away on Friday, September 5th, 2014 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.
Ernie was born on August 6, 1943 in Irvington, NJ to John and Virginia Mulhall. He started working for Public Service Electric and Gas Company in their headquarters in Newark, NJ upon graduation from high school in 1961. After he graduated from Rutgers University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, he was promoted to Assistance Chief Clerk at New Brunswick Electric Division. He spent 19 years working in Electric for the company and was transferred to the Gas Division in Trenton, NJ in 1981. He moved to various locations and positions in the company throughout his 40 year career, retiring in February of 2002 as District Office Administrator at Burlington Gas Division.
Ernie married the love of his life, Marilyn Anne Eckert, in 1967. Together they were very active in Marriage Encounter in the 70's. As a team couple, they gave talks on weekends, helping married couples learn to communicate and deepen their already good marriages. They had the privilege of being sent to New Orleans as an admin couple to give a weekend there. He and his wife were Eucharistic Ministers in their parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway, NJ. He moved to Jackson, NJ in 1977 and lived there for 28 years before retiring and moving to Renaissance at Manchester, NJ, where he spent his summers, wintering in beautiful Vero Beach, FL. He was an avid reader and loved to travel. Ernie loved to help people in any way he could and will be greatly missed.
He was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, FL and St. John's Church in Lakehurst, NJ. Ernie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Eckert Mulhall. He has two children, Timothy and his wife Sharlene Mulhall of Forked River, NJ and MaryBeth Mulhall of Jackson, NJ. He found great joy with his grandchildren, Michael Grobosky Mulhall, Donovan Mulhall and Brendan Mulhall. He is also survived by his brother John Mulhall of Tamarac, Florida and sister Ginny (Bill) Meyer of Howell, NJ.
A memorial service to celebrate his life, will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home in Manchester, NJ. There will be a funeral mass at St. John's Church, Chestnut St., Lakehurst, NJ at 10 o'clock A.M. on Monday September 15th, 2014 followed by burial of his ashes at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 56-80 Cedar Grove Road, Toms River, NJ.
