Obituary

Eugene P. Caldarone was born on January 12, 1933 and passed away on January 31, 2018. He was born to Eugene F. Caldarone and Frances Albiani Caldarone in Dorchester, MA. He attended public schools in Medford, MA and graduated from Tufts University in 1955 with a BA in History. Following graduation he served in the US Army in Germany. After which, he attended Boston University achieving a Masters in Education and taught Government, History and Civics at Division Avenue HS in Levittown, NY for 29 years.

During that time he met and married and is survived by Helen Flynn Caldarone as well as his brother and sister in law, Anthony and Joyce Caldarone of Vero Beach, FL and Cohasset MA.  Gene and Helen raised a family of 4 children in Babylon Village, NY – Carol Frances of Vero Beach, Andrew Cornelius (Judi) of Ohio, Ann Helen (Alessandro) of Astoria, NY and Peter Eugene of Vero Beach. He is also survived by four granddaughters Angelina & Maria Caldarone as well as Lucia and Penelope Mascia and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Retiring in 1998 Helen, Eugene and Peter moved to Vero Beach FL. He became active at Holy Cross Church and at St. Helen Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education Instructor. In 1992, Gene and Helen joined a Secular Franciscan Fraternity at St. Helen Parish to which they belong to this day.

Gene was a member of the Kiwanis Club for several years and the local Republican Club. He also served on the IRC Children's Services Advisory Committee and was President and later Treasurer of IRC Republicans for Life.

Gene was always dedicated to work, devoted to family and generous to his favorite charities. He loved attending the Vero Beach HS football games until health prevented him from continuing. Gene loved to travel and, over the years, he and his wife took several trips to Ireland, Turkey, Mexico, Italy, Poland, Bratislava, Austria among others.

A wake will be held 10 to noon, Monday February, 5, 2018.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at St. Helen Church in Vero Beach. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery at 2:30.  Reception to follow burial at the Moorings Club Sunset Grill 3-5pm.
