Eugene Virgilio Fernicola, age 90, of Fort Pierce, Florida, went to be with his Lord, November 21, 2020.

Gene, as his friends and family called him, was born January 12, 1930 to the late Anthony Fernicola and Louise Stabile Fernicola.

He was the last of five siblings; Ralph Fernicola, Carmine "Charles" Fernicola, Albert Fernicola and Marie Fernicola Burchett.

Gene served in the military as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged due to an accident which left him hospitalized for over a year.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Catherine May Masiello Fernicola; Catherine passed away six months to the day prior to Gene's death.

Business minded at a young age, he opened a fruit & vegetable stand as a teen before joining the United States Marine Corps.  After leaving the military, Gene married Catherine and started selling Hoover vacuum cleaners door to door. Always looking for a new opportunity, he opened "Sun Ray" pizzeria; later selling it and returning to Hoover Co climbing the ranks to district manager. During his tenure he attained the distinction of "National Top District" before again opening his own business, Vac Shack, a vacuum sales & service store, where he worked until he retired.

Loved by all, Gene had a witty and clever sense of humor, and was a true gentleman. His Christianity showed through in his love for his wife and family.

He is survived by his two children, Eugene R. Fernicola (Kris); and Mary C. Wysocki (Daniel). He also had seven grandsons, Jason Wysocki, Daniel Wysocki, Richard Fernicola, Timothy Wysocki, Michael Fernicola, Thomas Fernicola, Nicholas Fernicola. Gene was also blessed with four great granddaughters, Harley Fernicola, Stella Wysocki, Addison Fernicola and newborn Thea Claire Wysocki; and many other loving family & friends.

A joint memorial will be planned for both Eugene and Catherine when people can gather again safely.
