Everett Martin, 91, of Vero Beach passed away on March 30. He was born in Miami and after attending Miami High enlisted in the Navy at age 17. As the Quartermaster of LSM 45, he saw action in the Pacific including the battles of Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Upon his return from the Navy, Everett married his high school sweetheart, Jean Ferguson, and earned a business administration degree from the University of Miami.

He then embarked on a successful career in the steel industry, most of which was with US Steel. As part of Everett's work at US Steel he and his family lived in Spain and Brazil and he traveled extensively in Europe, Africa and South America.

Upon retirement, he moved to Port St. Lucie and, after Jean's death in 2005, to the Brennity in Vero Beach. Everett was an avid golfer and enjoyed his membership at Pointe West Golf Club and the friends he made there and at the Brennity.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie M. (Edward) Zimmer of Vero Beach, his son, Glenn E. Martin of Palm Bay, his grandson, James E. Zimmer of New York City, his sister, Juanita Lewis of Laurel Springs, North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. A loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a gentleman to all, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street in Vero Beach. A Funeral Service will follow at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, FL.
