Florence Grumman Hold, 88, of Vero Beach, Florida and Goshen, Connecticut, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center.
She was born August 30, 1924 in New York City and grew up in Port Washington and Plandome, NY. Her father was the late Leroy Randle Grumman, founder of the Grumman Aircraft Company.
She was a graduate of Bennett College in Millbrook, NY and Garland Junior College in Boston, MA.
Mrs. Hold was an accomplished figure skater. In 1958, she won the Lake Placid Bronze Ice Dance Championship and later medaled in the Eastern Sectional Ice Dance Championship. She was a member of the Skating Club of New York and the Essex Skating Club of New Jersey. She served on the board of directors of the Falmouth Figure Skate Club. Mrs. Hold was a member of the United States Figure Skating Association and also served as their bronze level judge.
She is survived by her sons, Randle Grumman Mason of Vero Beach and David F. Hold and his wife Karen of Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC; brother, David L. Gurmman of Evanston, IL; granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Grumman Hold and ten nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hold's sisters, Marion Grumman Phillips and Grace Grumman Nelson, predeceased her.
