F. T. OBrien, 83, of Vero Beach, FL, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. OBrien was born in Ashland, PA and had moved to Vero Beach in 1963 from Knox, IN.
He was a graduate of the Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia, PA as a Licensed X-Ray Technician, La Salle Extension University in Chicago, IL with an L.L.B. Degree, Rutgers University in New Jersey with an AS Degree and Florida Atlantic University with a B.B.A.. Mr. OBrien taught X-Ray and Laboratory Technology at the Franklin School and was the Hospital Administrator at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox, IN and Keys Memorial Hospital in Tavineir, FL. He was the former Administrator of the Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach. He also held positions of Administrator at several local nursing homes, including Pt. St. Lucie Convalescent Center, and was instrumental in the opening and operation of Indian River Estates Medical Center in Vero Beach. He ended his career after working as a Hospital Consultant for the State of Florida in the Winter Park office.
Mr. OBrien was a member of the Rutgers Alumni Association, American Radiological Technologists, American Academy of Medical Administrators, American College of Hospital Administrators, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus and B.P.O.E.. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Caroline OBrien of Vero Beach; two daughters, Barbara OBrien of Seattle, WA and Susan Elliott of Azle, TX; and two sisters, Rose Marie Szulanczyk of Lewisburg, PA and Catherine Burke of Bloomsburg, PA.
Services: No services are planned locally. Mr. OBrien will be interred in Ashland, PA.
