Gary D. Hall, a resident at Indian River ACTS community and the son of the late Darrington and Doris (Drum) Hall died on Monday, November 10, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Doris Russell a registered nurse, three children; Brian with wife Kathy of Jacksonville, Susan Gagne of Vero Beach, Karen Howell with husband Michael of Rochester, NY, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Born in Binghamton, NY Gary was active in sports and president of the HiY service club. He attended the Albany College of Pharmacy, joined the pharmaceutical fraternity Kappa Psi, and was editor-in-chief of his yearbook Alembic Pharmakon. After graduation in 1957 Gary received state pharmacist registrations in Vermont, New York, and Florida. He practiced in both community and hospital pharmacy but entered the
Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1958 earning a Master's degree in pharmacy education and Drug Product Development, in 1960. He was elected to RhoChi, the national pharmacy honor society.
For the next six years Gary was employed at the Sterling Winthrop Research Institute as a research pharmacist specializing in inhalation aerosols, injectable products , and packaging problems. During this period he was coauthor of several research papers and a chapter on Inhalation Aerosols in Lea & Febiger's "Current Concepts in The Pharmaceutical Sciences".
In 1966 Gary returned to his alma mater as lecturer then advancing in rank to full professor. His courses included Pharmaceutics I and Il, Home Health Care, Sterile Products, Industrial Pharmacy & Product Development, and Dermatology & Cosmetic Science. He was elected Chair of the Faculty for over 10 years and chosen by the student body as Teacher of the Year in the first year of its inception.
While being active in several professional organizations, he was elected presidents of the Northeast New York Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists and Upper N.Y Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Besides several research papers, Gary was coauthor of McGraw Hill 's "Pharmacy Review" for 10 editions and 10 editions of "Guide to Federal Pharmacy Law". This book was the most popular book in the United States especially for pharmacy graduates preparing for state licensure.
Gary's hobbies included collecting stamps and coins especially German states and 19th century Australian tokens. He was an avid duplicate bridge player, enjoyed reading books especially concerning history, and tracing the genealogy of both his and Doris's families.
During their over 65 years of marriage they both enjoyed world-wide traveling. His favorite destinations were Paris, Iceland, Tasmania, and Egypt. They also experienced a three week journey in Northwest
U.S. following the paths of Lewis and Clark's expedition of 1804.
