Obituary

George Joseph Batory, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019.

George was born in Larksville, PA, on September 14, 1934. After high school, he served in the US Army. George graduated from King's College where he was proud of being a walk-on for their football team. He married Audrey Dietz and together they had six children. For 30 years, he worked as an auditor for The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA). He happily retired to Vero Beach, Florida, in 1994.
In Vero, George was a parishioner of St. Helen's Catholic Church where he confidently professed his love for God, and he passed on his faith to his family.

George made his family a priority. He loved sports and shared that love with his six children - coaching their teams and attending all of their sporting events. Football, tennis, basketball, baseball, kickball - he loved it all, and he continued to share his love of sports with his 11 grandchildren, whom he cherished.

We couldn't tell George's story without mentioning the incredible bond he had with his son Jim. George lived with Jim (aka Mr. B) and Jim's family for the last 20 years.

George is survived by his wife Audrey; five of his six children - Paul Batory (Tammy), Jim Batory (Camille), Caroline Broering (Chris), Mary Grace Taynor (Rob), and Anne Marie McFeeters (Travis); two of his four sisters - Dolores Klapis-Adams and Mary Ann Batory; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Batory, and his sisters, Barbara Alapack and Betty Karasek.

A visitation will be held on Monday, Jan 28, from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 pm at St. Helens Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to VNA of Indian River County or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations.
