George H. Foote, 82, died Feb. 27, 2009 at the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice in Vero Beach.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in Hiram, Ohio, and moved to Vero Beach 24 years ago, coming from Darien, Connecticut.
A graduate of Harvard University, he retired in 1984 as a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he directed the firms worldwide consulting practice in executive compensation and human resource management. Since his retirement, he served as a Trustee and member of the Endowment Committee for Hiram College in Ohio, where he and his wife Arlene endowed the George and Arlene Foote Chair in Ethics. As co-chair of Hirams capital campaign he helped raise 43 million dollars to increase the college's endowment and build several new campus buildings. Locally, he helped raise funds for charitable projects of the Exchange Club of Vero Beach. Under his leadership as Chair of both the Scholarship Committee and Scholarship Foundation Trust, the Club increased its assets by several hundred percent to further assist local high school graduates in their college endeavors. He was named Exchangite of the Year there in 1998. He was also a long-time member and supporter of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.
In addition to his wife Arlene, he is survived by three sons, Gary of Tolland, Connecticut, Richard of Lakewood, Ohio, and David of Vero Beach, and four grandchildren. A brother, Edward Foote, predeceased him.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, followed by a reception at the church.
