George C. Whealton, Jr., 87, of Vero Beach, FL died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. Whealton was born in Chincoteague, VA., and served on the bridge Vessels of the U.S. Merchant Marine for 42 years, retiring in 1985. He last sailed as Master of the U.S.N.S. Susquehanna. He was a resident of Houston, TX, before becoming a permanent resident of Vero Beach, FL in 2008.
He is survived by his wife Robin Whealton of Vero Beach, FL; son, Christopher Whealton of San Diego, CA; daughter, Rosene Politowski of Lumberton, NJ., and 2 grandchildren.
Services: A private memorial service will be held at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL at a later date.
