Gerald "Jerry" Leonard Taber, 57 of Hypoluxo, FL, formerly of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday July 15, 2015 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
He was born in Vero Beach, Florida on March 6, 1958, graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1976 and then Florida State University in 1980. Upon graduation, he moved to Palm Beach County where he spent his career as a stockbroker, with the last 28 years at Hennion & Walsh, Inc., of Delray Beach, FL.
Jerry was an active supporter of numerous church and non-profit organizations. Among them include the Real Children's Ranch, Okeechobee, FL; The Timothy Initiative, West Palm Beach, FL; Shining Light Garden Foundation, Vero Beach; and, others. He served for many years on the Board of Directors of Real Life Children's Ranch, a licensed, faith-based 501(c)3 that provides group home services to abused, neglected and abandoned boys and girls in a farm-based setting on the shore of Lake Okeechobee. His parents, Clarence and Lovina, were Founding Directors of Real Life, and his daughter, Jennifer, continues as a Board member.
Jerry was a licensed private pilot, owned his own plane and enjoyed flying with his mother, family and friends. He loved golf, racquetball, tennis and ping pong, winning the Men's Advanced Division All Racquet Sports championship while at FSU.
Survivors include his mother, Lovina Albrecht Taber of Vero Beach, FL;
his wife, Wendy Taber of Hypoluxo, FL; daughter, Jennifer (Jared) Taber Reelitz, and their infant son, Lincoln Edward of West Palm Beach, FL; son, Jason (Megan) Graham Taber of Vail, CO; sister, Maxine Taber Dunlop of New York, NY; brother, Donald Glen Taber of Wrightsville Beach, NC; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. He was predeceased by his father Clarence Thomas Taber and his brother Thomas Harry Taber, both of Vero Beach.
A Celebration of Gerald's Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Grace Fellowship, 8350 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Jerry's name to one of the following charitable organizations:
