Gladys Vanacek Somerville Baldwin

Gladys, 100, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at her home in Vero Beach, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 27, 1924, in Chicago, IL, and has been a resident of Vero Beach, FL since 1978, having previously resided in Franklin Lakes and Teaneck, New Jersey. She was married to Donald Baldwin in 1974 who passed away in 2006. Her prior marriage to Thomas Somerville ended in divorce.

Gladys graduated from Gaines School in NYC, courses at NYU, Rutgers and the American Management Association. Her career covered a 40-year period with Elizabeth Arden, American Cyanamid and offices of the Chairman and President of American Airlines. She also held positions with Pilots Employment Assoc. at Teterboro Airport, Lipton Tea Corporate Advertising, Dart Industries (Rexall Drug & Chemical) and Flight Safety International with Baldwin Assoc. during her retirement in Vero Beach.

Mrs. Baldwin served on the Indian River Shores Building & Grounds Committee and the Robles del Mar Landscape Committee for over 15 years. She was an active member of the VIP Investment Club and a dedicated member of Republican Women Aware for over 23 years.

Survivors include four children: Thomas Somerville, Linda, Ryan and Scott of Bridgewater, NJ; Sandra & John Moore of West Milford, NJ; grandson, John Jr. & wife Meghan, & two great-grandchildren of Vernon, NJ; Sherrill & Eduardo Canet of Lake Worth, FL; a grandson, Eduardo Jr. & wife Carrie & one great-grandson of Hamilton, MA; a grandson, Alejandro & wife Charlotte, & two great-grandchildren of Palm Beach, FL. She is survived by her William Jr & Kathy Colleary at area Collea Thornton, CO, sister-in-law, Betty of Stratton, VT, and their five daughters. Gladys' five stepchildren include Thomas, Terry, Donald, Raymond, and daughter PJ Wright of Cape Cod, Houston, Hilton Head and San Antonio.

She is predeceased by her son, Robert; & her brother, Russell Vanacek.
