Gladys A. Lowe, age 93, died Friday, Dec. 10, at the Hamrick Home. Mrs. Lowe was one of the first babies born in the newly settled, young town of Okeechobee and resided in Okeechobee her entire lifetime.
She retired, after being employed in many different capacities, from the Okeechobee County School System.
Her hobbies included fishing and gardening and she loved her grandchildren more than life itself. Generosity was a natural part of her being as she would readily give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Carlisle, Sam, and Horace Thomas; sisters, Doris Carden, Hallie Thomas, Edith Worth, Ada Hancock, Geraldine Stanley; grandsons, Rhet Butler, Frank Frankum; and granddaughter, Bobbie Summeral.
Survivors include daughter, Glenda (Earl) Stripling of Okeechobee; grandson, Michael Stripling of Okeechobee; granddaughters, Glynnis Butler of Port St. Lucie, Brenda Quinlan of Okeechobee; great-grandsons, Frank Dudley of Port St. Lucie, Dayton Quinlan of Okeechobee, Matthew Butler of Port St. Lucie; great-granddaughters, Karen Summeral of Port St. Lucie, Kaila Frankum, and Katlin and Summer Stripling, all of Okeechobee.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Buxton-Seawinds Chapel at Abundant Blessings Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 17, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where Mrs. Lowe was a charter member, 412 NW 6th St., at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
