IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon Nelson
Luckett
June 19, 1929 – July 29, 2024
Gordon Nelson Luckett passed away July 29, 2024, in Melbourne Beach, FL. He was known there for his love of family, motor homing, fishing, model trains and woodworking as well as how generously he shared his vast practical and financial knowledge. He thrived on connections to three churches: St. Paul's UMC in Kensington, MD; Peachtree Road UMC in Atlanta, GA; and Community Church in Vero Beach, FL. He was born in Bolivar, West Virginia, to Mildred and George Luckett on June 19, 1929. He grew up in Kensington, MD, and graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in 1947. He soon landed a job as a bookkeeper at the Kensington Bank, which launched a career that led him to be a regional mortgage loan officer at the First National Bank of Maryland and ultimately the President of Equitable Savings Bank in Wheaton, MD, which merged with BBT/Truist. His most fortuitous job, however, was working as an usher at the Avalon Theater in Washington, DC, where he met the love of his life, Jean Kirby when she was 13 and he was 16. They married in 1950 while he served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Gordon is survived by four children: Linda Taylor of Melbourne Beach, FL; Donald Luckett of Silver Spring, MD; Christina Rosenberger and husband, Robert, of Lake Wylie, SC; and Christopher Luckett and wife, Sylvia, of Huntingtown, MD. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Liam and Sam Luckett; Diana Rosenberger, husband Felix Herrera and daughter Olivia; and Amy Rosenberger, partner Adrian Martin and son Aiden. A celebration of life will be held at, and streamed from, St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kensington, MD, on September 14, 2024, at 11:00 am: https://stpaulsk.org. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to hunger relief programs at one of his favorite churches or another charity.
