Gordon Richardson Pyper, 95 of Vero Beach, passed away on December 23, 2019.
Born September 1, 1924, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he was a son of the late Gordon Fenn Pyper and Donna Virgil Richardson Pyper.
He attended the University of Michigan, Brown University and Northfield Mount Hermon University and was a B-17 pilot in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Pyper was an active member of Vero Beach Community Church and of the Treasure Coast Scottish Society.
He relocated to Florida after residing in Vermont for 43 years where he retained the position of Professor of Civil Engineering at Norwich University for 23 years. He spent a decade with Dufresne-Henry Engineering Company; and yet another decade as Commissioner of Water Resources for the state. An accomplished and busy man, he still somehow found time to fall in love with sailing the waters of Lake Champlain.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pyper was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years,
Betty Sargent Pyper; a son, Timothy; and siblings, Caroline, Lois, Ann & Robert.
He is survived by his children, Donna Schipke and Dexter Pyper; granddaughters, Ashtin & Chelcie;
a grandson, Frederick; one sister, Jody Wormsbecker; and many other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be January 19 from 2-5p.m. at the Royal Palm Club House at Vista Royale.
Interment will be in Norwich University Cemetery in Northfield, Vermont.
