Harold (Hal) Donovan, 82, of Sebastian, FL died March 27, 2009 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian.
He was born in Cambridge, MA and moved to Sebastian from Pompano Beach in 2005.
He had been employed by the State of Massachusetts and as an Managing Engineer for Condo complexes in Southern Florida. He was a long time lover of Dixie Land Jazz and an very fine cornet player. He was the founding member of the HAGS (Hot-Jazz and Alligator Gumbo Society. He also mad many contributions to articles in the Mississippi Rag. He also belonged to many other Jazz Societies for supporting and preserving the Jazz culture. He played in many Jazz Bands throughout his musical career, Hal Donovans All Stars, The Paradise Jazz Band. The 6 Pages Dixie Bourbon Street Jazz Band and My Fathers Moustache to name a few. His music playing took him to playing throughout the US with some of the greatest and well know Jazz players in the world.
He is survived by his son Brian Donovan of Fox River Grove, IL and his daughter Nancy Byrum of Sebastian, FL and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny of 57 years and brothers, Lawrence E., Frederick H and John L. Donovan.
