Harold Kenneth Weigele, 86, of Spanish Lakes Fairways, Fort Pierce, FL died Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. Weigele was born October 10, 1923 in Kerhonkson, NY and moved to Spanish Lakes Fairways 10 years ago from North Palm Beach, FL.
He had joined the Middletown, NY Police Department on December 31, 1950 and retired as Chief of Police June 13, 1987, a position he held for 17 years. Mr. Weigele was a veteran of WW II, served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was also an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #48, former member International Association of Chiefs of Police, life member NYS Association of Chiefs of Police, Charter Member and Past President of the Police Chiefs Association of Orange Co, charter member of the Mid-Hudson Association of Chiefs of Police, a member Peace Officers Association of Orange County, a 50 year volunteer with McQuoids Engine and Ladder Company and a member of the American Legion Post 151.
Survivors include his wife, Calvina Weigele of Fort Pierce; daughter Nancy Bunting of Suitland, MD; sons David Weigele of Middletown, NY and Paul Weigele of Suitland, MD; sister Mary Burr of Sarasota, FL; brothers Richard Weigele of Sarasota, FL and John Weigele of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren; and five great -grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Marjorie Gorman Weigele, a son Richard Joseph Weigele and a sister Helen Stock
Services: The family will receive friends, 2-4 PM Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service at 4 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Weigele will be transferred to the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown, NY where Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and interment at St. Josephs Cemetery in Middletown.
