Harry Mapp Walker, 95, died September 9th, 2013 at The Place assisted living facility in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born in Bayford, Virginia, on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, on Feb 9, 1918, and was raised there until leaving for college in 1936. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1940, and was privileged to witness Franklin D. Roosevelt deliver the commencement address. As a chemical engineer, Mapp' was involved in making explosives during World War II at the Kankakee Ordnance Works in Illinois. Following the war, he pursued a career with E.I. DuPont in the division of cellophane and textile fibers in Old Hickory, Tennessee. He remained with DuPont for a long career. Mapp returned for his retirement years to Bayford on his beloved Eastern Shore. He was a member of the Hungars Episcopal Church in Eastville, Virginia. He served on the Soil and Ground Water Conservation Committee, and was a past member of the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. He was married for sixty-seven years to the late Thelma Thadie' Grabbs Walker. He is survived by his children, Sally Walker Lynch (Fran) of Auburndale, Mass., William C. Walker (Maureen) of Vero Beach, FL, and Steven H. Walker of Benicia, Calif. There are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Roscoe (Bo) Walker, Jr., and Francis (Hooksie) Walker.
