Herbert Banks Kuhn's Obituary
Herbert Banks Kuhn, Sr. of Vero Beach, FL, died on October 14, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center. Herbert was born in Natrona Heights, PA., he had been a resident of Grove Isle of Vero Beach, FL since 1996.
After graduating from Har-Brack High School in the Pittsburgh, PA area, Herb entered the U.S. Air Force, retiring after three years. He then entered college life and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. The steel mills of Pittsburgh called him to work for Allegheny-Ludlum where he was eventually transferred to their plant in Watervliet, NY, near the capital, Albany.
In 1949 he married, Almyrta Porter of Natrona Heights, and is the father of three children, Herbert, Jr., Deborah and Jeffrey. Almyrta preceded him in death in 1980.
After leaving the steel industry in 1968, he spent 17 years employed by the State of New York as a personnel administrator in Albany. While employed by the State, Herb became Mayor of the Village of Colonie and served in that capacity for 16 years being re-elected 8 times. He subsequently retired from New York State in 1987 and later retired as mayor from the Village of Colonie in 1995.
Herb married Margaret Lois Lamme in 1982 and traveled extensively before purchasing a condo in Vero Beach, FL.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach and served in a variety of capacities of the Grove Isle Condominium Association.
Mr. Kuhn leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Margaret Lois, sons, Herbert B. (Kyoko) Kuhn, Jr. and Jeffrey (Sandra Grady) Kuhn both of Albany, NY; daughter, Deborah (Alec Kowalczyk) D'Agostino of Albany, NY; stepson, Thomas (Lucinda) Lamme of Penfield, NY and stepdaughter, Anne (David) Pankratz of Canandaigua, NY; brothers, Donald and Thomas Kuhn both of Pittsburgh, PA, 9 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Clarence "Bob", Charles "Len" Kuhn and George; grandson, David D'Agostino and step-daughter, Linda Sabatini.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, October 20th at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.
