Hume H. (Tuck) Harris reached the end of his long journey on 2-7-8 at Vero Beach Hospice House. Tuck was born on June 21, 1924 in Geneva, Illinois. His parents Hume and Erna Harris preceded him in 1963 and 1975.
His wife Marianne of 61 years survives and their three children Dale (Peggy) Harris, Suzanne (John) Malarney and James Harris all living in Michigan. 8 dear grandchildren, Bart, Jason, Beth, Kari, Sally Jo, Ashley, Taylor and Calvin and 5 great grands. He is also survived by one sister, Hollie (Duhhaine) Waeker of Newton Kansas and one brother-in-law James A. Holden of Mesa, Arizona. Two precious grandchildren preceded him also, Tamra Malarney in 1993 and Joe Woodby in 3003.
Tuck was a Navy Veteran spending 4 years in the South Pacific enlisting at 17 years of age in 1941. He spent most of his life in the car business, 38 years with Ford Motor Co. moving to Sebastian in 1981 he worked for Velde Ford, then retired because ill health.
Tuck was a 60 plus member of the American Legion and the youngest service man to be inducted into the V.F.W. in Chicago, Ill. at age 18 in 1942. In January 2006 he received a 1"x1 ½" piece of wood from the deck of his Battleship, the U.S.S. Washington. The ship has been disassembled and all living Navy men from the ship were sent this wonderful piece of their past for serving their country.
His later days he was very close to the Lord, and enjoyed his trips to the river to pray. There will be a Memorial Grave Side Service in Hudson, MI at a later date.
