Irene M. (Burke) McLellan, our Mimi, of Vero Beach, Florida passed peacefully surrounded by family at the VNA Hospice House on September 27, 2021. She was born October 27, 1928 in Bangor, Maine to Peter and Emmaline (Connely) Burke. She graduated from John Bapst High School in 1948. She married the love of her life William (Bill) C. McLellan in 1950 and they had nearly 70 years together before his passing in 2019.
Irene was employed by Viner Brothers Shoe of Bangor, ME, and American Felt Slipper of Brewer, ME for many years where she learned how to use four letter words, but only vey sparingly. She loved following Boston sports teams, and never met a bingo game she didn't like. Most of all she loved her family and being Mimi.
Irene is survived by: her four children, Susan Mitchell and husband Norman of Otis, Maine; Steven McLellan and wife Sharon of Palm Bay, Florida; Karen Wood and husband Scott of Hulls Cove, Maine; and James McLellan and wife Mike of Bradenton, Florida; six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters; Barbara Viola of Troy, Michigan; and Joan Miller of Toledo, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Bill, sisters Frances Brown and Carol Picciotti; brothers Leo Burke, Raymond Burke and Robert Burke, and grandson Jimmy McLellan.
Irene will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetary in Bangor, Maine. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach.
