Jack Richard Ley
Jack Richard Ley, age 83, of Vero Beach, Florida, and Franklin, North Carolina, passed away May 14, 2026. Born in Decatur, Illinois, Jack attended Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio, where his track coach considered him one of the most talented runners he had ever coached. He went on to attend Ohio State University before opening the Jack Ley Insurance Agency in the early 1960s.
As gifted in business as he was on the track, Jack enjoyed a successful 42-year career in the insurance industry. He took great pride in serving his clients and was known for taking the extra time to ensure they had the best protection possible. His integrity, dedication, and genuine concern for others earned him the trust and friendship of many throughout the years.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Loving Ley; stepdaughter, Dr. Carrie Kimberly Jones; son, Chad Ley and his wife, Paula Ley; daughter, Jacqueline Ellen Sugar and her husband, Tom Sugar; and grandchildren, Jack Sugar, Ava Sugar, and Lauren Ley; brother, Eugene T. Ley and his wife, Mary Jo Ley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Head, Heart and Hands of Indian River Club, 800 Carolina Circle SW, Vero Beach, FL 32962 or by simply taking the time to perform an act of kindness in Jack’s memory. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Details will be shared when they are finalized.
