Obituary

Jack Evans Peebles, 71, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30.  Jack was born December 5, 1947, in St. Louis, MO to Byron E. and Mary Virginia Peebles. He graduated from Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA as the Battalion Commander in 1967. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. His professional career began in 1975 as an Account Manager with Burroughs Corporation. He retired after 20 years with Sun Microsystems where he was able to travel the world including extensively in Asia and South America helping modernize telecommunications during the technology boom. Jack had a passion for boating; growing up on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, sailing and water skiing with his two brothers instilled in him a love for the water and created an avid boater for life. As an adult he owned various sail and power yachts and competed in several Newport to Bermuda Ocean Races. Affectionately known by friends as "Captain Jack", sailing was a important part of Jack's life and he loved cruising with family and friends. He passed his love of the water on to his children by spending every free moment with them during summers and school vacations cruising Narragansett Bay, Cape Cod, and the Islands, often rendezvousing with life long friends in the various ports. Jack was also an avid skier, as a 15-year member of the Killington ski club, he enjoyed spending every weekend supporting his children's development in the sport while competing in annual "great chili cook-offs" with dear friends. In retired life, Jack spent years cruising the waters of the Maine Coast, Gulf Coast of Florida and the Bahamas on his and fellow friend's and family's yachts. As a grandfather, he was a constant supporter and companion of his favorite and only granddaughter, Reese. He enjoyed attending all her school and sports events, was a favorite binge-watching companion and a beloved after school caretaker. Their memories, laughs and time together will be forever cherished by her.

He is survived by daughter Meghan Cilley and husband Dan, of Boca Raton, FL,  sons Ian and wife Rebecca, of Marblehead, MA, and Evan of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughter Reese Cilley, brother Richard and his wife Patti of New Bern, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William and sister Mollie.
