IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacqueline
Degance
November 6, 1948 – June 23, 2024
Jacqueline DeGance, age 75, of Vero Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Born on November 6, 1948, in Gainesville, FL, she was the beloved daughter of Philip and Helen Warsyck Jansen. Raised in Fort Lauderdale, Jacqueline played a nurturing role as the oldest of four children.
At the age of 15, her life changed when she met a 16-year-old boy in Catholic Youth Organization. A few years later, she'd marry that boy and stay married to him for 56 wonderful years. Her marriage to Joseph DeGance was a powerful witness of love to their six children and 21 grandchildren. A devoted follower of Jesus, Jacqueline and Joseph cultivated a home life and marriage where prayer, their Catholic faith, and daily Mass played a central role.
For more than 35 years, Jacqueline worked side-by-side with Joseph as a legal secretary in her husband's law practice. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and strong work ethic made her invaluable in their professional success.
Christian love and service played a quiet and prominent part of her own rule of life. Few knew that while her own young children still lived in the home, Jacqueline would venture out to teach the faith to incarcerated girls in the local jail. Jackie and her husband continued prison ministry throughout their marriage. Saturdays were often spent waking up early and supporting the Missionaries of Charity's mission to the homeless in Miami.
A dedicated member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Jacqueline was deeply involved in her parish community. She generously volunteered at the church's summer camp, where she shared her faith and joy with children, creating lasting memories and enriching their lives. She also participated in the parish outreach programs, tirelessly working to help those in need and making a positive impact on the lives of many.
Jacqueline was also a true lady. Her outward appearance was a reflection of her inner dignity and poise. She carried herself with a quiet strength and an unassuming confidence that made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her impeccable style and refined manners were matched by her kind and generous spirit.
As a loving mother, Jacqueline's dedication to her family was evident in everything she did. She worked tirelessly to ensure her home was a place of warmth and comfort. Nicknamed – the Great Planner – her ability to balance work and family life was legendary. She always ensured the family ate dinner together each evening and the family rosary would typically follow.
Jacqueline's involvement in her children's lives extended beyond the home. She took on the role of coach for her children's sports teams, offering her time and energy to support their interests and encourage their growth. Her involvement in their activities showcased her commitment to being an active and engaged parent, fostering a spirit of teamwork, perseverance, and love in her children.
Jacqueline's efforts in the home and in Christian service touched many lives and were animated by her love of God.
Two years ago, Jacqueline and her husband moved to Vero Beach, seeking a new chapter in their lives. Prior to this, they had lived in Pompano Beach, FL, for 46 years, where they built a life together filled with cherished memories and strong community ties. Their move to Vero Beach was a continuation of their journey, embracing new opportunities while carrying forward the love and legacy they had built over the decades.
Jacqueline is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Lamonte DeGance; children, Joseph DeGance, Jr. and his wife Margrethe of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher DeGance and his wife Heather of Ft.
