James L. Freeman

US Army Veteran and Proud Grandfather of 10

James L. Freeman, 83, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Atlantic Health & Rehabilitation Center. Jim previously lived in NJ before moving to FL in 2010.

Jim was born on November 10, 1934, in West Orange, NJ. He attended Immaculate High School in Montclair and graduated from Seton Hall University. After high school, he proudly served his country in the US Army stationed in Heilbronn, Germany, 1954-1956, 60th FABn after the Korean War. Jim enjoyed his career, mostly in the consumer brands industry, before retiring from AT&T. Jim also enjoyed coaching Little League and basketball junior leagues in Wilton, CT.

He is survived by his wife, Maryann (Gallagher) Freeman, three children and their families: Karen Boyle and her husband Christopher of Annandale, NJ; James and his wife, Michele, of Weston, FL; Andrew and his wife, Dana, of Williston, VT; and grandchildren, Erin, Christopher, Kelli and Keri Boyle in NJ, James, Brittany, Thomas, and Daniel Freeman in FL, and Flynn and Callahan in VT.

Jim was the youngest son of Anna (Phillips) and Thomas Freeman of West Orange, predeceased by his brothers Thomas, William, and sister Mary (May). Jim is survived by his sister, Barbara, of Forked River, NJ, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are in Vero Beach, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 10:00 am at St. John of the Cross Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SENIOR RESOURCE ASSOCIATION of Vero Beach (memo: ATTN Claire Foceri, LPN, Adult Day Care Manager), 694 14th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960, Phone: 772.569.0760. The Senior Resource Center was a blessing to Jim and Maryann for their personal warmth and heartfelt caring for Jim and the guidance and support they provided to Maryann during Jim's battle with Alzheimer's disease.
