James Robert McKaig

James Robert McKaig, 79, of Melbourne, FL. passed away April 04, 2010.
Born October 1930 in Syracuse, NY he lived most od his childhood in Bennett's Corners attending class in a single room school house until he attended Warners High School and graduating in 1948.
Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corp.. in October 1948 and was stationed at Paris Island and Camp Lejeune serving for 2 years. In 1952, he joined the New York State Police serving in both Troop B & D until his retirement in 1976 as a senior investigator. During his 24 years of service he was station commander from 1956-1959 in Morrisville before transferring to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. In 1969, Jim was appointed to head to the newly created Narcotics unit for Central New York where he served until 1975 whemn he took command of the BCI in New Hartford until his retirement in 1976.
Jim was an avid golfer, Cilvil War buff, 50 year member of the Cazenovia Lodge 616 F.&A.M and loved taking fishing trips into Canada with many good friends. He frequented the Adirondacks throughout his life where he always felt at home.
He is Survived by his wife Shirley of almost 30 years as well as his children; Larry (Heather) of Forsythe, MO, Dennis (Kathy)of San Jose, CA, Douglas of Morrisville, NY, Daryl of Oxford, OH, Duane (Deborah) of Marion, NY, and Denise of Stephens City, VA, plus 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
No Services will be held in Florida, but a memorial will be scheduled for late spring at the First United Methodist Church in Oneida, NY.
