James Francis Murphy, 86, of Spanish Lakes Country Club Village, Ft. Pierce, FL died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Ft. Pierce.
Mr. Murphy was born April 7, 1924 in Yonkers, NY and moved to Spanish Lakes in 1988 from Pine Bush, NY.
He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Murphy had worked for New York Telephone prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, the Shuffleboard Club, Mens Golf Club, Telephone Pioneer Club and the Veterans of Spanish Lakes.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Catherine E. Murphy of Spanish Lakes; daughter Kathleen Berman of Mt. Dora, FL; daughter Pat Hinrich of Ft. Pierce, FL; son James Daniel Murphy of Pine Bush, NY; daughter Mary Ellen Murphy of Yonkers, NY; brother Raymond Murphy of Greenville, TX; and two grandchildren, Erin Thomas and Michael Edery; four great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and extended family.
He was predeceased by a brother John Murphy.
Services: The family will receive friends 4-7 PM, Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Mass will be celebrated with military honors 11 AM, Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Ft. Pierce. Final interment will be at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
