James Michael Parrella, 65, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born January 5, 1948 in upstate New York and had been a resident of Vero Beach for over 40 years coming from there.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Parrella worked for the Indian River County Sherriff's Department for 15 years and the Department of Corrections for 10 years.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his companion, Barbara DeLuca of Vero Beach; his sister, JoAnne (Thad) Burgess of GA; his mother, Bertha Parrella of Vero Beach; his aunt, Pat Trifoso of Vero Beach; 6 nieces and 6 nephews and his loving friends in the Circle, Bob, Heather, Jim, Tigan, Michael and John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm, and Friday, April 26, 2013 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery and a Celebration of Jim's life will follow at his home.
