James D. Tuttle, age 84, of Athens, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.
Born in Montour Falls, New York, James was a proud graduate of Odessa High School, Class of 1960.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished time spent with his family and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, James R. Tuttle (Cindy) of Athens, Alabama; his daughter, Regina Fretwell (Donald) of Eva, Alabama; and his brother, Harold Tuttle of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
He was a proud grandfather to Eric Compton of Hagerstown, Maryland; Danielle Henchcliffe (Steven) of Ladson, South Carolina; Kimberly Adkins (Logan) of Madison, Alabama; and Jeffrey Tuttle (Samantha) of Athens, Alabama. James was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Caleb Compton, Ava Wyatt, Dylan Atchison, Stanley Henchcliffe, Cynthia Henchcliffe, David Adkins, Mallorie Tuttle, Liam Compton, Jaxson Compton, Waylon Compton, and Ellie-Mae Tuttle.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shelia Tuttle; his parents, Harry and Ruth Tuttle; his brothers, Russell Tuttle, Harry “Bucky” Tuttle, Robert Tuttle, Charles Tuttle, and Jack Tuttle; and his sisters, Ellen Voorhees, Ruthanna Smith, Jean Payne, and Frances Secord.
James will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10-11:30am, Thursday June 18, 2026 at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30am with Rev. Ray Wehrenberg officiating.
Interment to be held at Crestlawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home.
