Obituary for Jane Elizabeth Rausch

Jane Elizabeth Rausch, 97, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025. She was born in 1928 in Loris, South Carolina, where she grew up on a small family farm. Life in those early years was simple and demanding—no electricity, no indoor plumbing, heat from a wood stove, and certainly no air conditioning. From that humble beginning, Jane witnessed nearly a century of extraordinary change.

As a young girl, Jane worked long days in the fields and took on the responsibility of helping to raise her younger sister. Even then, she knew she wanted a different life—one built through education, determination, and service to others. She devoted herself to her studies, excelled in school, and proudly graduated first in her class. Her hard work earned her acceptance into a nursing program in Washington, D.C., where she continued to shine.

After marrying and welcoming three children, Jane poured her energy into both her family and her community. She was one of the original founders of the Northern Virginia Consumer Council, a pioneering group that championed consumer protections. Their efforts led to significant changes in packaging regulations, including clearer ingredient and additive disclosures—years before such transparency became standard practice. Jane's advocacy helped lay the foundation for safer, more informed consumer choices nationwide.

Upon retirement, Jane and her husband settled in Vero Beach, where they enjoyed many fulfilling years. Their church became the center of their lives, a source of strength, friendship, and deep spiritual nourishment. Together, they lived long, fruitful lives grounded in faith, service, and love.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Crestlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home the same day from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM.
