Janice Tucci, 81, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Janice was born in Syracuse, NY, to John and Jessie Peterson. As one of five children, she was part of a close-knit family that shared a bond of love, laughter, and support throughout her life.

A graduate of Vocational High School in 1960, Janice married the love of her life, James Tucci, in 1963. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two children who were her pride and joy. Janice spent many years working at Crouse Hinds before retiring to follow her true passion for caring for animals. She devoted her time to the S.P.C.A. in Syracuse, where her kindness and gentle spirit made a lasting impact on both animals and people.

In her later years, Janice moved to Vero Beach, FL, to be closer to family. She embraced her new life with the same warmth and generosity that had defined her, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, humor, and love.

Janice was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Tucci; her parents; her sister, Jeanne Reese; her son-in-law, Landon McGary; her nephew, James R. Peterson Jr.; and her dear brother-in-law, Tom Gallagher. She is lovingly survived by her children, Angela McGary and James Tucci, both of Vero Beach, and her cherished grandchildren, Sarah Tucci and Aidan McGary, who were truly the apple of her eye. Janice is also survived by her siblings, James (Avis) Peterson of Central Square, NY, Charles (Colleen) Peterson, and Jacqueline Gallagher, both of Vero Beach, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of friends who will deeply miss her.

In accordance with her wishes, Janice's final arrangements will be made through Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, with no formal services. We honor her wish for a quiet, private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, Janice's family invites you to make a donation in her memory to your local animal shelter, continuing her lifelong compassion for animals.
