Jean Welborn Acker died on September 20, 2018 in Mills River, North Carolina.  A Service of Celebration for her life will be held at First Baptist Church in Vero Beach; the date and time of the service can be obtained on the Cox Gifford Seawinds website.

Jean was born in Surry County, North Carolina, on May 26, 1923.  She moved to Vero Beach as a young woman on a temporary assignment with Western Union.  While there she met and married James Acker,  who was postmaster for many years.  They lived in Vero Beach for over 60 years, and she was active as a leader  in the schools that her children attended,  her sorority, the Flower Club, First Baptist Church, and serving as a flower show judge throughout Florida.  Jean was loving, passionate and strong-willed, and she was a natural leader.
