Obituary

Jessie "Peggy" Margaret Schultz Genter, 91, died on October 16 in Vero Beach, Florida. She was born in London, England, on January 30, 1924, to William Lee and Jessie Shearer, one of seven children. During World War II, her family was separated, with her mother and younger siblings sent off to safety in central England. Peggy stayed in London with her father, surviving the Blitz and working as an apprentice dressmaker. She was later reunited with her mother in Leicestershire, and began working as housekeeper for a retired British Army Colonel. At age 18, she joined the British Land Army becoming an inspector at the local aerodrome, recording battle damage on British warplanes. During the war, she met and married James Joseph Schultz, and at the end of the war they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, with their first-born son, David. There they had a second son, Douglas. James died at age 49 and Peggy later remarried and moved to Vero, Beach Florida with her second husband, Chester Genter. Chester died a few years later and Peggy never remarried. She was a devoted member of St. Helens Church, and then a founding member of St. John of the Cross Church in Vero Beach where she also served in the church office.

Peggy is survived by her sons, David Schultz and Douglas Schultz and wife Jeanne, her sister Joan and husband Ted, her brothers, Ron and wife Grace, and Kenny and wife Josie and their families, her grandchildren: Jeff Schultz and wife Bethann, Jim Schultz and wife Amy, Courtney Cano and husband Sonny, Jonathan Schultz, Doug Mercer and wife Aimee, and Jaclyn Starkey and husband Marc, and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her close nieces Kim Heard and Theresa Graham and husband, Peter, her best friend, Bette, and good friends, Gwen, Connie, Marge, and Peggy, and numerous friends.
Peggy is predeceased by her husbands, James Schultz and Chester Genter, and by her brothers Charles, William, and Ted Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Florida, Father John Pasquini will officiate.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Peggy's name to the Wellness Ministry at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7590 26th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
