Joan Carrell Wallace, Artist 6-25-1922 - 10-3-2009
Joan was born on her father's farm at Nashaminy, Buck's County, PA. She graduated from Doylestown High School and from the Philadelphis Museum School of Art (now UArts).
She made a living working at commercial art, including the making of animated films and employment at the Franklin Institute, Brewster Aircraft,and as a technical illustrator at the US Naval Aircraft Development Center at Johnsville, PA.
Here she met Robert B. Wallace and they were married on the sunny afternoon of January 5, 1952 in the living room of her father's farmhouse, in20the company of a few friends and family.
Shortly after their wedding, they set out on their boat for Florida. In 1957 they built their home, Dos Rios, on south Merritt Island.When their children started school, Joan returned in earnest to her favorite medium - watercolor. She became a Charter and Participating member of the Florida Watercolor Society, a Charter member of the Brevard Watercolor Society, a shareholder in Art Encounter which built the Fifth Avenue Gallery where she was an active member and past President. Her work is still displayed there.
She and her husband joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church in 1953 and have been active members until her illness made it impossible. Joan taught Sunday School for "the little ones" for many years. During the time when Stewardship began with the "Every Member Canvass" she and her husband were always volunteers and spent many a pleasant Sunday afternoon visiting members. Her last service was the preparation of communion trays. Throughout her illness, she never stopped thinking of her church and her gallery.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 8th at 1:00pm at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. 106 N Riverside Dr Indialantic, FL
