JoAnn Murphy
Jo Ann Murphy, 75, of Vero Beach, FL, died Monday, November 14, 2011 at Consulate Health
Care. Mrs. Murphy was born December 21, 1935 in Fond du Lac, WI, to Irving H. Miller and
Ruby Berry.
JoAnn graduated from Marquette University as a Speech Pathologist, and enjoyed working
with her students in Fond du Lac. When she wasn't studying or helping her students, she
enjoyed spending time at her family's cottage at Linden Beach and studying ballet En Pointe
from "Cleo". In 1958 JoAnn married James F. Murphy, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (FDL).
They moved to Milwaukee and Wauwatosa where she continued to teach until starting her
family. After raising five children, JoAnn spent many years as a Department Manager at Kohl's
Department Store in Wauwatosa, WI.
JoAnn loved life, but most especially her 7 grandchildren. After marrying Frank, she became
interested in the Irish culture and acquired a passion for Irish music. She moved to Vero Beach
because she loved the ocean and the white sand and enjoyed sharing that with her family. She
looked forward to her annual reunions with college friends, and loved spending time with her
family at the camper in Wisconsin Dells, around the bon-fire and on long golf cart rides to see
the sunset. No matter where she lived, she welcomed her family and friends with open arms.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James F. Murphy, her sons, Joseph B. Murphy
(Janice) of Mayville, WI, Martin P. Murphy (JoAnn) of Wilton, WI, Matthew K. Murphy (Kristen)
of Mukwonago, WI, Pat Murphy of Vero Beach, FL, and daughter Mary C. Murphy of Vero
Beach, FL. Seven grandchildren who were the loves of her life; Sarah Anne and Margaret of
Mayville, Katie of Wilton, Katherine, Elizabeth and Maddy of Mukwonago, and Charlie of Vero
Beach, and many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Ruby and Irving Miller, her sisters Elizabeth
Louise Miller Rusch and Loretta Miller, and her brother Jack Miller.
