Obituary

Joanne Battaglini, 86, passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida on January 27, 2022.

She was born to the late Peter and Irene (Nicholas) Hronis on August 1, 1935 in Endicott, NY where she graduated from Union-Endicott High School. She married her high-school sweetheart, the late Donald Kenneth (Ken) Battaglini, and together they raised their family in nearby Endwell. They later moved to Surfside Beach, SC where they enjoyed many winters in the sunshine.

Small in stature, Joanne was a spitfire. She had a big personality, big heart and big laugh. She loved gardening and golfing, bowling and volleyball, and had a flair for color, design and decorating. Never one to sit idle, Joanne was talented in all things creative – crochet, knitting, macramé – but her greatest passion and expertise was sewing. She would burn the midnight oil making clothes for her family and friends, bridesmaid dresses, Barbie doll clothes, draperies, bedding and upholstery, and doing alterations. She and Ken successfully merged their Greek and Italian heritages, and enjoyed cooking their specialty dishes and entertaining family and friends at their home where everyone was welcome.

While raising her family, Joanne managed a furniture store where her people skills and talent in interior design were on full display. She loved to visit customers' homes to design room layouts, and eventually became the corporate buyer and trainer over all the stores in upstate NY. In her retirement, she started her own small business – Little Blessings – making heirloom christening gowns.

In her later years, Joanne never let Alzheimer's define her. Even as the disease progressed, her character never changed; she remained the lively, personable and caring person that she always was. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Pelican Landing in Sebastian, FL and the compassionate staff at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

Joanne was pre-deceased by her son Randy Sam Battaglini, daughter-in-law Diane (Shupp) Battaglini, and her sister Constance Klimash. She is survived by her four children: Donald B. Battaglini (Endwell), Denise Battaglini (Vero Beach, FL), Debra (Steven) Pert (Binghamton), and Jennifer (Brooke) Raser (Wheatland, WY); she was Gram and "Yiayia" to her seven beloved grandchildren: Michael (Corinne) Battaglini, Joseph (Sherri) Battaglini, Mackenzie Pert, Bryan (Laura) Pert, Nicholas Pert, Lee Raser and Kenny Raser; two great-grandsons: Case and Christopher Battaglini; her sister-in-law Eleanor Convertino, and several nieces and nephews.
