John Francis Beckert, age 84, died Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Vero Beach, FL with his family at his side.

He was born to the late Francis and Mildred Beckert on May 23, 1940, in New York, NY. He graduated from St. Agnes High School, Rockville Center, NY, in 1957. A graduate of Dartmouth College (Class of 1961), John received his MBA from the University of New Haven in 1972. Before starting his career in banking, he served as a Captain in the US Army in Vietnam until 1967. In 1983, he became the founding president of the Advest Bank in Hartford.CT. In 1993, John became the President and CEO of Farmers & Mechanics Bank, Middletown, CT. and Regional President of Citizens Bank of CT. He retired as President of The Hartford Bank in 2000.

John had a long history of service to business organizations and community groups and a long list of distinguished awards throughout his career. Among others, he completed the most successful United Way campaign in the history of Middletown, CT, received the 1998 UNH Distinguished Alumni Award and was named "CEO of the Year" by the publication Financial World. In Vero Beach, John served 12 years on the United Way Board, was President of the Treasure Coast Council of Navy League and Treasurer and Patron of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra. With every endeavor, friends would say John tackled them with never-ending energy, enthusiasm and leadership.

John is survived by his wife, Jean, son Chris (Kerri), son Thad (Julie), daughter Kathy (Eric) Keener and 6 wonderful grandchildren, Kaye, Emma (Emily), Joslyn, Andrew, Audrey and Jonathan.

John and his wife loved to travel, especially to see family and friends. They visited the UK 50 times as well as seeing many other places in the world.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 1:00PM at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7550 26thSt., Vero Beach, FL 32966.

John's son will give a eulogy prior to the Mass at the church beginning at 12:50pm.  Please join the family for this special time ahead of the Mass.

Burial will be in West Cemetery, Madison, CT at a later date.
