John Colmey passed away on May 14, 2026. John was born in St. Louis MO on May 28th 1930. His parents to Duane C. And Mary Jane Colmey. He lived in Webster Groves MO and graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1948.
He then attended Colorado State University. It was there that he met Madelyn McClave and they were engaged during his Senior year and were married after his graduation.
He took Artillery ROTC at CSU and joined the Army in 1955. He served as a 2nd Lt. in Hachinoi , Japan where Madelyn joined him. He was discharged in 1956 and returned to CSU to complete an M.S. degree in Dairy Technology.
After completing his M.S. degree, he attended the Food Science department at the U. of l. In
Urbana Illinois specializing in Dairy Technology to complete the requirements for a Ph.D.
Degree. He was elected to the Sigma Xi scientific society.
Following his graduation in 1962, he joined the Pillsbury Company as a Product Development Scientist. He held management roles at Pillsbury and joined Foremost Foods Company in 1969 as a Group Leader.
In 1973, he joined ITT Continental Baking Company as VP Research Administration. He later became VP Research and Development.
John later joined Nabisco Inc. as VP Research Development and Quality Assurance, becoming VP and general manager of the Technical Group.
His wife Madelyn passed away in 1986 and he retired from Nabisco Brands in 1987. Following his retirement from Nabisco, he joined Pepperidge Farm Inc as VP Technology and QA .He also served on the Board of Directors for the Corporation.
John enjoyed playing golf, croquet and bridge and was a member of VBCC and the VBBC.
He met Kelly Gerry through a friend and they were married in June of 1998.
He was active in the churches where he and his family lived. He served as elder and chairman of Christian education committees in Sparta NJ, Danville CA, Stamford CT and Board of Trustees in Sparta and the Methodist church in Cape Porpoise ME. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church in VB.
As were John’s wishes, services and interment are private.
