John "Jack" C. Hoffman 76, of Port Saint Lucie, Fl. passed on to his Heavenly Father on August 11, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice House, Ft. Pierce.

He & his wife retired to Port Saint Lucie in 2002, coming from Severna Park, MD,
where they lived for 32 years in the Chartwell community.

He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Colonel Joseph & Marie Hoffman.
He attended schools in Maryland, Virginia & Wiesbaden, Germany. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1953 & while in high school was in the naval reserves at the Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. He marched in the General Eisenhower inaugural Presidential parade. He also attended night school at John Hopkins University.

He had a fabulous career in the service to his country. He graduated from the Air Force Cadet Pilot program in 1954. He spent 10 1/2 years on active duty & several years in the New Jersey National Guard. The last five years of active duty he was a member of S.A.C. (Strategic Air Command) flying the B-47 aircraft as one of the youngest aircraft commanders. He was on alert during the Cuban missal crisis & the Berlin crisis. He also spent many months in Europe on alert during the cold war. He held the rank of Captain when he left the air force for his new career with the airlines.

He pursued his flying career with Trans World Airlines from 1964 to 1991. He was a pilot instructor in Kansas City, MO & became a Captain within 3 years with the airline.
He instructed airline pilots from Air Force One, Olympia & Saudi Arabia Airlines on the 707 aircraft. When he retired in 1991, he was an international Captain on the L-1011 aircraft.

While stationed in Tachikawa, Japan, he met & married his wife, the former Lt. Christine
Perginski, an Air Force nurse. They were married on April 25, 1959.

His interests were many, boating, deep-sea fishing, woodworking & electronics, having several patents. He built & flew radio controlled model airplanes with the Sun Dancers Flying Club.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Christine, a daughter Donna Cohen Sculley & her husband, Neil, four grandchildren, Natalie & Zac Cohen, Alyssa & Nevin Sculley all of Columbia, MD. He was preceded in death by his children, Teresa & John Hoffman.
Also surviving his sister Alvina Flasher, sister in law Rita Lisinski & several nephews & a niece.

Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors & a memorial Mass at a later date at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port Saint Lucie.
