John Roger
King
March 13, 1934 – August 9, 2022
John Roger King, 88, passed away peacefully on August 9th. He was born in Rochester, NY to John and Ruth King. At the age of 16 he few his first solo flight and earned his pilot's license before gaining his driver's license. He graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1953, where he was involved in many sports and voted "Most Athletic". After graduating, he enlisted in the Army, serving most of his time in Anchorage, Alaska until being honorably discharged in 1956. After his military experience, he was employed for 17 years at the Cape Canaveral Guided Missile Range, where he participated in many missile launches, including the Apollo 11 mission. Roger was an avid diver and fisherman; he was involved in many treasure/artifact recoveries from shipwrecks along Florida's coast. In February of 1974, he married his wife, Lois; they were married for 42 years until her death in 2017. Throughout their marriage, Roger and Lois were active members of the American Legion, Post 39, and were blessed with many wonderful friendships there. He is survived by his step-children Mitchell Martin (Paula), of Dade City; Mitzi Joyce (Jack), of Cleveland; Robert Martin, of Vero Beach; and Merri Kay Bennett of Okeechobee. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Krum, who resides in Texas and many other nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the American Legion, Post 39 located at 1535 Old Dixie Hwy., in Vero Beach.
