John Matthew Leahy of Vero Beach, FL passed away on January 23, 2026 at the age of 85. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 16, 1941 to John and Mary (Brady) Leahy. A proud Philadelphian, he can now rest with his beloved Eagles as the defending Super Bowl champions.

A Marine Corps veteran, John moved to Florida in 1966 and knew he'd found his home, first in

Hollywood, and for the last 20 years in Vero Beach. He was fondly known to his family as the "Man of Steel." He loved his family, golfing, reading the newspaper cover to cover every morning over coffee, watching Westerns, sarcasm, laughing, and drinking beer.

John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Bonnie Leahy, his son Jim Leahy (Ellen), his stepsons Scott Sutton (Elva) and Clint Sutton (Doris), and his grandchildren Kevin Leahy and Kristen Leahy and his sister-in-law Kathy Reese.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Donnie and his brothers Jimmy and Billy.

A celebration of life is planned at a time and place to be determined.
