JOHN W. MINER, 82
January 9, 1936 to December 2, 2018
FT PIERCE, FL – John W. Miner passed away Sunday December 2 at home with his wife of 57 years by his side, after a long illness.
John was born in Pittsfield MA and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He attended and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1959, with a degree in Engineering. John's engineering career took him to ED Jones in Dalton, MA, Sterling Drug in Rothchild, WI and finishing his career at the management level at Hertzog-Hart in Boston, MA. John also served in the Coast Guard Reserves in the 50's and 60's.
After retirement in 2001 John lived with his wife, Nancy (Hamilton) Miner in Manomet, MA, where he enjoyed being by the ocean. After becoming permanent Florida residents, John still enjoyed New England summers at Sandwich, MA on the Cape.
John was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Louise Miner, his brother Robert Miner, his sister Claire (Miner) Rodriquez and his grandson Joseph Burrows. John leaves behind his wife and his three children – son John and wife Angie in Stratford, WI, daughter Theresa and husband Joseph Burrows in Taunton, MA and daughter Patti and husband Steven Striar in Plymouth, MA. John leaves his grandchildren – Johnelle Miner, Andrew Burrows, Gideon Striar, Miranda Striar and Jack Striar. He also leaves a few nieces and nephews and some good friends.
John's hobbies were varied. He was an avid reader and enjoyed camping, cribbage and playing cards. He played in Bocce and Horseshoe leagues and stayed active with daily walks. He collected trains and, most especially, antique clocks that he loved to take apart and restore. John's first love, however, was always his wife Nancy and his children.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a memorial at a later date for family and close friends. His wife Nancy wishes to thank everyone for their support of John during his illness.
